My Review

Ask Me No Questions is the first book in the new Lady Dunbridge Mystery Series and my first read by Shelley Noble. Lady Philomena Dunbridge is our protagonist, a 26 year old widowed countess who is also an amateur crime-solver.

The story takes place in the early 1900’s in Manhattan, New York. Lady Dunbridge is originally from England but she has decided to come to America after being in mourning for her husband. As soon as she arrives and meets her friend at the boat dock she finds herself in the middle of a mystery. Her friend’s husband has been found murdered.
Readers are introduced to a great group of characters. I loved the main character Lady Phil as well as her maid, Lily and her faithful butler, Preswick. The author did an excellent job describing the early 20th century New York setting. This is one of my favorite time periods and the historical detail was amazing.

Ask Me No Questions was such a joy to read. A great start to a new series…can’t wait for the next installment in the Lady Dunbridge Mystery Series. Highly recommended. Thanks to the author and Forge for providing me a copy to review. Highly recommended for those who love mysteries set in the early 20th century.

My Review
The first thing I noticed about this book was the beautiful cover art...love it!! This is my first read by this author and my first Gothic romance novel and I enjoyed it a lot. This is the first book in a new series called The Victorian Ladies and what a great start. 

The author was able to grab my attention and keep it throughout. This is another book where I was able to learn new things. The main character Miss Eleanor Sheffield a talented evaluator of antiquities, able to tell the difference between true artifacts and a fraud.

I highly recommend this to those who love historical fiction mixed with a touch of danger and mystery. I can't wait for the next in this series!

Just finished UNSUB by Meg Gardiner, the first installment of the UNSUB series. I actually read Into The Black Nowhere (UNSUB #2) before reading this one. I’m so glad I went back and read it. UNSUB is a psychological thriller inspired by the Zodiac Killer.

My favorite character was the protagonist Caitlin Hendrix, a young detective following in her dad’s footsteps. But she is determined to not be like her dad who brought his job home with him and made the personal relationships at home strained. Caitlin’s father was haunted by the serial killer named The Prophet who killed 11 victims on Mack Hendrix’s watch. Now twenty years later The Prophet starts to kill again. Caitlin struggles with carrying her dad’s reputation and she tries to deal with her dad now that she is an adult.

The Prophet, the antagonist, is a formidable character. He uses cryptic messages and loves to toy with the police. The author did a great job conveying the creepiness with this character. The pacing of the plot was perfect. The dialogue between characters was realistic and spot-on. The author slowly builds the story up to a mind-blowing ending.

Just an overall great book! Look forward to reading more of the UNSUB series. 5 out of 5 stars! Recommended to those who love psychological thrillers with a bad-ass female protagonist and an extremely creepy antagonist.
